So we dropped the first @FakeShoreDrive mix two weeks ago, kind of as an experiment. No tracklist, no information on songs, no nothing. Just a file and a cover. Hell, the file was one large Mp3 – forget individual tracks. And I know you didn’t know the DJ. The result? Overwhelmingly positive. Phone calls, texts, comments and people stopping me in public all followed. Now we’re back for round 2.
In case you missed it, the concept is that I give a DJ a handful of songs, all picked by me. Some new, some old, some unreleased. 80% Chicago. The DJ, noahimean a.k.a. Nati Kid, takes the tracks and mixes them how he pleases. He sequences, he cuts, he blends and also adds his touch. A fairly simple concept that’s hard to get people to pay attention to, right?
I chose to forego a tracklist because waaaay back when mixtapes or blend tapes were actually on tapes, I enjoyed being surprised as to what was on them. Sometimes if you see a tracklist, a certain artist or song might turn you off and you pass on listening all together. I’ve seen it and done it a hundred times. However, with NO bias from the beginning, you might come to like a song or artist you may have thought was wack and never checked for otherwise. You may even discover a dope new song or two. Check it out and see for yourself.
I’ve made the project available for download (if you want to burn to a disc or put in iTunes) and also to stream (for those at the crib or at work).
