Black Eyed Peas Ready For 2011 Super Bowl

Posted on December 17, 2010 by Andrew Barber

One of the biggest groups in hip hop is going to be performing on one of the biggest events taking place in one of the biggest stadiums.

Needless to say, it will be big.

The Black Eyes Peas are set for the 2011 Super Bowl, which will be hosted at Jerry Jones’ new Cowboys Stadium in Dallas in early February, 2011.

The rap group recently dropped their latest album, The Beginning (as a follow up to last year’s The E.N.D.), and did pretty good sales in the first couple of weeks. After moving 119,000 the first week, they added another 62,000 to the lot.

In 2007, the Black Eyed Peas performed in the halftime show of the Grey Cup, which is the Canadian Football League’s championship game. Suffice to say the Super Bowl, which is broadcast in over 200 countries, is a step up in attention. They also performed in the pre-game of Super Bowl XXXIX back in 2005.

Previous halftime performers at the Super Bowl have included The Who, U2, the Rolling Stones, and Paul McCartney. The Black Eyed Peas will be the first hip hop-infuses act in a while with the closest thing – in recent memory – being the Janet Jackson-Justin Timberlake duet. The organizers are hoping to avoid any wardrobe malfunctions this time. Since that mishap, it has been a strict diet of classic-rock halftime acts, so it will be nice to get a change.

What they are going to perform is anyone’s guess, but expect to see a medley of some of their newer hits, such as The Time, along with previous smashes, such as I Got A Feeling”. We know the Super Bowl likes to bring out the wacky bettors for all the crazy prop bets, but don’t bet on the Peas performing their hit with Sergio Mendes, Mas Que Nada.

Super Bowl XLV takes place on February 6th, 2011.
