Video: Freddie Gibbs Talks Signing with Young Jeezy & CTE

Posted on April 11, 2011 by Andrew Barber

Hours before Freddie’s announcement at Bottom Lounge that he was aligning himself with Young Jeezy and CTE, Gangsta Gibbs recorded this interview with 107.5 WGCI’s DJ MoonDawg, giving him the first exclusive radio interview.  In this 7 minute clip, he talks to MoonDawg about how the deal came to fruition, why he chose Jeezy, and how he’ll be a priority on CTE.  I actually heard MoonDawg play this live on their air yesterday evening, and he also hinted that the two might have a mixtape in the works in the near future, so be on the lookout for that as well.

There’s been a lot of discussion on the internets on if it was a smart move for Freddie to sign to another artist, when said artist is having trouble putting out his own project.  And to that I say, you can never, ever count someone such as Jeezy out.  No matter if he currently has a smash single in rotation or not, you don’t fire a sniper for missing one shot.  He’s still the ATLien of choice when that Southern flavor is needed for the Jay’s, the Ye’s and Drake’s of the world, so why would that change?  Yeah, it’s been since 2008 when Jizzle’s last album dropped, but Lupe had been shelved since late ’07, and dropped arguably the biggest album of his career just last month.  Regardless, I think we should all STFU and see how the music plays out, because in the end, that’s all that really matters.  I don’t give a good cot damn if Freddie signed to Ronald McDonald as long as his music is still jammin’, and I don’t think you should either.  CTE will give him new looks, new money and a new audience, so let’s sit back and see what happens – I think it’s gonna be major.

Your trippin Lupe’s last album was by far his weakest album and im not the only one who thinks that. Your credibility for the column has officially been washed away. And if you talking about BIG as in album sales then you obviously dont follow Freddie Gibbs cause he’s not the type of artist to sell out.
