A Night In Kreayshawn’s World

Posted on August 20, 2011 by Ty Howard

Kreayshawn hit Bottom Lounge last night for her first Chicago show and I, Ty, was in attendance to witness it all.

Hollywood Holt was the perfect opener. Holt’s always interesting to see live and last night was no different. Holt ran though his usual bangers, which I do not recall the name of. Sad, I know. He did perform “I Be On That Bulls***”, which the crowd seemed to love. Holt even let his homie from Ohio, Freaky Fonz sneak a track in. Next up was “Swerve ‘N Lean” minus GLC & Shala, of course. Hollywood closed his set with his Million $ Mano-produced single, ” The Show”, which sounds pretty dope live. Before exiting the stage, Holt made sure to let everyone know that his album, Hollywood, was finally dropping in October on Universal.

Entering the stage to Sissy Noby’s “Beat It Out The Frame” (No comment), Kreayshawn started her set with “Rich Whore” which sounded pretty good on Bottom Lounge’s sound system. The crowd seemed to enjoy the Lex Luger-esque track, too. After that, Kreayshawn proceeded to run through a couple of joints from her mixtape (I know, right?). The second track she performed, “God Bless This Doobie”, left her looking like Jamie Kennedy’s B-Rad character from Malibu’s Most Wanted a few times. Kreay actually went on to perform a new song which sounded like it was cut from the cloth of Wiz Khalifa’s “In The Cut”, but was actually dope. The highlight of the night was Kreay’s controversial partner in crime V-Nasty hitting the stage after tweeting earlier that day that she was on her way to Oakland instead of Chicago. The crowd went crazy as V-Nasty took to the stage donning a Bulls snapback and a few gold chains. The White Girl Mob (sans Lil’ Debbie) ran through “What’s My Name” and “I’m a Real B****”  before heading into The Bizness-produced “Swobbin'”. Next up was “Summertime” and another Lex Luger-tinged track titled “Left Eye”, which is actually where the “You tryin’ to play me like a boss? You faker than Rick Ross” line she let fly on Cosmic Kev’s radio show is from. After running through another unreleased track, she decided to perform “Bumpin’ Bumpin'” which is where the “One big room  full of bad b****es” sample on “Gucci, Gucci” is from. Of course, the crowd wanted “Gucci, Gucci” and they got it as Kreayshawn closed her set with her ever so popular single.  She even performed it twice (Gucci two times? Ha!).

The real star of the show was the audience. You can tell a lot about an artist by the crowd they attract and I’m not too sure about Kreayshawn yet. At times, the audience seemed as if they were asking themselves “What is going on and where am I? “. Don’t get me wrong, there was some die-hards in there who knew every word. That was only 2% of the crowd, though. Remember when Whodini said that the freaks come out at night? Well, they do and they were certainly at Bottom Lounge last night. From chicks dressed like they were attending a Halloween rave to guys wearing the brightest and tightest clothing known to man, it was there. I witnessed a girl dance while on crutches and two guys do the spirit fingers move while dancing with each other. The show really felt as if you were at some crazy college party and your drunken friend who loves hip hop was “performing” for everyone. My advice to you: Never go to a Kreayshawn concert sober.

For the record, I actually like Kreayshawn. V-Nasty, too. After seeing her live, I just don’t see what all the fuss was about. Of course, she has some growing (musically, that is) to do. If we can accept artists like Soulja Boy and Lil’ B, then why can’t we accept Kreayshawn? We let Waka Flocka in and look how much he’s grown lyric-wise. He couldn’t even rhyme when he started. Let Kreayshawn cook, people.

this was the most tired show I’ve seen in years. the bar has been set so much lower due to garbage like this : what, all you need to do is get dressed up like the favorite trend and shout out some brand name clothes ? and then its good, or MUSICAL ?

the idea of what is considered MUSICAL, at this show and in this review, should be thought through.

It shows the power of the internet. Blogs and youtube run the rap game now. Good or bad. I mean people like lamar, dza and k.r.i.t. balance this bullshit off. Clowns like her come and go. It’s life.

Kreayshawn is garbage. All these little fake Oakland hipster gangster-wannabes bragging about money and drugs is just plain ignorant. Have you heard this “rapper” freestyle? My friend’s little brother has better rhymes than this Winehouse-GaGa rip-off. I heard this girl rapper Snow White, and her lyrical content and delivery is light years past Oakland’s majesty of coke sniffing and blunt smoking.

All the neon colored thrift store shirts in the world can’t make this bitch a rapper. She’s a walking fashion trend — which, I might add, she didn’t start — that will soon sink in the abyss that is the Internet. She’s horrible. I wonder what people in Oakland think of her. She came to Flint recently and probably won’t be back. Rumor has it, she was booed and made fun of by most of the crowd that weren’t suburban thugs. Shit like this ruins real artist’s reputations because they then are classified in the broad landscape of hip hop — which is the category Kreay’s stoned babbling are in.

Glorifying partying and weed smoking is nothing new. Been done for years. But if that’s all she’s got, then she’s in trouble. Even her mindless fans will realize that songs about weed only go so far. She even dissed Wiz in a freestyle, proving her lack of lyrical ability while boasting she smokes more than he does. This girl is on crack, E, meth… something. And groups like Odd Future, rappers like Lil B (those like them) are equally as bad. Since when is a skateboarding hipster a G? I used to skate, for the record. Never was a thug. Some were “thuggish,” but that’s about it… it’s Flint, everyone has a little thug in them, or so they say. That may be the case with Kreayshawn, but she’s not even from Oakland.

Her style is better suited for the rave scene, which probably wouldn’t accept her Salt N Pepa earrings, JJ Fad wannabe-ass anyway. Real female rappers everywhere should be ashamed of this hack — more so that she associates with V-Nasty, a self-proclaimed thug who lets the N-word fly like nothing. Say that shit in Flint — or in any real hood — and you’ll likely get your other tooth broke.

Keep talking the talk — choppers, crack, money and hoes — because you damn sure don’t walk the walk. Bring back real MCs. Bring back lyrics, genuine style and legit talent. YouTube can make you famous, but it can also expose you. Imagine if Vanilla Ice had YouTube back in the ’90s. He would have probably discovered as a fraud long before he changed his style in a poor attempt to save face.

    I’m done. Piss off, Kreay-Kreay — Oakland’s majesty? More like Oakland’s tragedy.

Couple typos in that rant, but you get the picture. Now, poppin’ in some Nas to dull the sting of this shit.
