This week’s guest of honor is Westside resident, Joseph Chilliams. I got hip to Chilliams a few days ago, after hearing the slamming beat he contributed to Marzett’s “Gangsta City.” I immediately tracked down Chilliams to find out more about his unique sound, and invited him to take part in the FSD Beat series. Thankfully he obliged, and made this beat on the spot for us. So yes, this is completely 100% unheard and unreleased. What a guy!
Joseph is only 22-years-old and began making beats when he decided he wanted to rap, and in order to rap, he needed beats. He was inspired by his mentor Tommy Skillfinger and another Chicago producer by the name of Kanye West. He’s a member of the PIVOT rap crew, and was first inspired to make beats after hearing Fergie’s album (of all things). He gave me this quote and it’s just too hilarious not to include:
His beats sound like what you would play for a kindergardener if u wanted them to grow up and be somebody. Joseph looks forward to making more disney pop and folk influenced trap music. The more you hear from him the more you will love him. He’s currently working on his solo debut, Pivot’s debut and hopefully a bunch of other dope rappers because thats what this is for.
