FSD: Do you listen to any of the female MC’s from Chicago?
Tink: Um, I mean, of course. I think everybody has their own individual lane, so I salute everybody that’s grinding right now. I definitely rock with Chin Chilla Meek, Sasha Go Hard, and Shwanna.
FSD: It seems like that you have mastered the rap/sing style in your music. Which comes more natural to you? Do you prefer one over the other when recording?
Tink: I hate choosing but if I had to choose it would be the rapping, just because of the energy it comes with it. In R&B, they expect for you to be soft and passive, but through rap I can just express myself in a lot of different ways.
FSD: What’s your popularity status at your school?
Tink: School is normal as far as my senior class, because they’ve known me since forever. The freshmen and sophomores show a lot of love. [Laughs.]
FSD: So do you have any of your fellow classmates wanting to spit a 16 on any of your projects?
Tink: Oh my God! Yes! [Laughs.] We get the producers, and artists. We get the “Can I just come be with you when you go on stage?”
FSD: What about your teachers? Do you receive any favoritism?
Tink: I don’t think they really know. [Laughs.]
FSD: Do they even know that you were on the cover of the Red Eye?
Tink: No—not really! I like it like that though [Laughs.]
FSD: You were recently in New York on a business trip. Could we see you signing with a major soon?
Tink: It’s possible—we had a meeting with Atlantic. It’s a few other labels that are looking in. I won’t say too much about that though.
FSD: What’s next for you?
Tink: Right now, I’m actually looking forward to putting out another tape before the end of the year. I want to give the best of both worlds with the singing and rapping with this new project.
