At the top of the last year (1/3/13 to be exact), Common announced on Jimmy Fallon that he was set to drop three projects throughout 2013: an EP, a mixtape and an official album. Well, 2013 came and went, and we struck out on all three. Nada. Zero. Zilch.
Well, Common returns almost a year to the date to announce a brand new project, Nobody Smiling, which is scheduled to drop in 2014, and will be produced entirely by No ID.
“2014 will one of my greatest times in music,” Common promised during a sit-down with REVOLT before a recent show at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. Why is he feeling this way? Well, Common is actually prepping the arrival of his 10th studio album, Nobody Smiling-a title that stays true to enriching his troubled hometown of Chicago.
“I feel excited about the project that I’m working on. It’s called Nobody Smiling and it’s an album that originally I was making an EP but, we’ve just been making a lot of songs-myself and No I.D.-and I liked the direction,” he admits.
This sounds great, as any product from No ID and Common is sure to be top notch, I just hope we actually get it this year. Common and No ID are extremely busy men, but let’s hope they can find time to knock this project out.
