FSD: Speaking of travel, I actually saw you when I was down at SXSW walking around like 15 deep. What was that experience like for you?
Lil Bibby: Um, the worst experience of my life. [laughs]
FSD: Really? Why is that?
Lil Bibby: I had to take 2,000 pictures. I had to shake 1,000 hands. I had to talk to 1,000 people that I don’t even know.
FSD: So how do you feel about all of the stuff that comes with fame? Because I feel like it came kind of overnight for you, from what I can see.
Lil Bibby: I really don’t like it to tell you the truth. I don’t like it.
FSD: What is it that you don’t like about it? Is it just having to interact with all of these people you don’t know?
Lil Bibby: That and then you see everything that’s changed. Everything changed all of a sudden. Then you’ve just got to learn how to adapt to all the new stuff.
FSD: In your perfect world, how would it be? Would you just drop your music then go back to normal life?
Lil Bibby: Yeah, I wish it was like that. [laughs]
FSD: Just to go back and cover a little bit of history for those that don’t know, how’d you start rapping?
Lil Bibby: I started rapping, like, I was just playing around on the phone. You know how we used to have the voice memos on the phone? We had an instrumental playing off like a speaker or something and start recording and start rapping while the instrumental was playing. We just recorded everybody verse and we’d just send it to all my friends and then they just started putting it as they ringtone. And it just spread from there.
FSD: What was it like the first time you went to a studio and upgraded from the whole cell phone memo thing?
Lil Bibby: I mean, it was alright. I just had to learn to record with the headphones on, catch the beat, you know. It was kind of easy.
FSD: How early did you know that rap was going to become a full time thing for you?
Lil Bibby: When we dropped that “Kill Shit” track. That was just when everything was moving fast.
FSD: Cool, that’s all I have. Do you have any comments for the readers?
Lil Bibby: Go follow me on Twitter and Instagram @LilBibby_ and make sure everybody go check out The Book when it drops.
FSD: And I’m sure you’ll keep us updated on that process.
Lil Bibby: Yeah I’ll definitely give you an update. Shoutout to my mans Andrew and Fake Shore Drive and Ty.
