FSD: Do you believe Rahm Emanuel needs to step down?
TY: I believe Rahm Emanuel needs to go home and go to sleep. I believe Rahm Emanuel needs to step down. Nothing’s changed and nothing is getting better. He closed down all them schools. People forgot he closed down all them schools. For what? I don’t know. We got more county inmates than high school graduates. To shut down all them schools then to build another part of the county for more inmates don’t make sense to me. I call him mayor Rahmen Noodles.
FSD: Do you believe he knew about the dashcam video before he was elected?
TY: Of course. You know it’s election time there’s a lot of bullshit going around. We waking up, slowly but surely. Chicago is waking up. There’s always going to be violence but it’s all about proacting instead of reacting.
FSD: When you google Harvey, Illinois the third sentence that comes up is “Harvey is well known for it’s high crime rates and unemployment.” Does Harvey have the wrong reputation?
TY: Harvey is like little Chicago. Except we got our own world out there. Been a lot of corruption but we all look out for each other. They tore the projects down and all that shit changed a long time ago, if I’m going to be honest. All the projects got torn down and everyone started merging.
It’s the same shit everywhere. It’s not the same suburbs like South Holland or something like that but Dalton, Carol City, Harvey all that the same.
FSD: Have you seen Spike Lee’s Chi-Raq?
TY: I saw it at the premiere.
FSD: What are your thoughts on that?
TY: I liked Chi-Raq. I think people thought that it was going to be something else like Snow on tha Bluff or something but first you gotta realize what kind of movie Spike is shooting. All his movies be funny but they got a message. Not everybody is going to get the message but I got the message. Plus, I had a little bit to do with the writing and the soundtrack.
FSD: I think a lot of people are reacting to the title.
TY: If he would’ve named it Toilet Seat it wouldn’t have been as big of a deal. The title definitely sparked something but I think Spike got good intentions.
FSD: New album Moneyveli. Coming next year?
TY: It’s like my Detox. I’mma hold onto it. I don’t want to talk about it too much I’m going to get on this Cinco de Money II and we gon turn back up. No Moneyveli for now. Cinco de Money II is coming January/February. First quarter. Might put out a six/seven song EP before that.
FSD: Will these be your first commercial releases?
TY: Yes.
FSD: Any label situation yet?
TY: Not yet. We focused on us, Gold Coast Music Group/Sibley Boys. We focused on building the Ty Money brand independently like we been doing for a long time. We laid our foundation ain’t no use in rushing.
FSD: Anything you’d like to say just to wrap it up?
TY: My name is Ty Money. I’m an artist from Chicago’s South Side and if you don’t know me you will soon enough… And fuck Rahmen Noodles!
