Closed Sessions has steadily become a Chicago staple over the last several years. The indie label has worked with artists like Saba, Noname, Jamila Woods, OddCouple, and current signees like Femdot and Kweku Collins. Now, the team looks to expand their operations again by linking with Mississippi’s Fat Possum Records.
The deal, made specifically with Fat Possum’s House Arrest distribution leg, entails all CS artist distro being handled under that banner.”Joining House Arrest gives us a distribution partner that will not only get our music into stores and online retailers, but can also mentor us in how to grow and scale our company,” CS founders Alex Fruchter and Michael Kolar said in a joint statement.
This is a major move for Closed Sessions, and the landscape of Chicago artists as a whole, so big congratulations to Fruchter and Kolar are in order. With word on the street being we’re in store for multiple releases from the label this year, we certainly have much to keep an eye on.
