$160k Worth Of Fake Jordan’s Seized In South Loop

Posted on July 18, 2010 by Andrew Barber

Well, they weren’t all Jordan’s, but you get the idea.

The Sun-Times is reporting that $160,000 worth of bogus Nike’s were confiscated in a raid of a South Loop store called E. Pretty Inc. on 626 W. Roosevelt.  The culprit apparently had 1,700 pairs of bototleg Nike’s and if you wanted a pair you had to knock on the door three times.  Treated.

Store owner Eng was arrested about 10:15 a.m. Friday when police entered the women’s boutique, E Pretty Inc., located at 626 W. Roosevelt Rd. with a search warrant, according to the release.

Police found 114 large cardboard boxes that contained counterfeit pairs of Nike gym shoes including Air Jordan and Air Force I styles that were valued at more than $160,0000.
Police visited the store earlier in the week after learning that a man matching Eng’s description was selling the shoes to selective customers who were instructed to knock three times on the rear door, according to the release.

Following this procedure, police made a cash purchase of a case of 16 pairs of Nike Air Force gym shoes, according to the release. Eng also told the officers that he was expecting a large shipment of Nikes the same day.

An expert familiar with the sale and distribution of trademark products confirmed that the athletic shoes were indeed counterfeit merchandise.
