FSD Feature: Derrick Rose & Chicago Bulls – Title Hopes All But Gone

Posted on April 29, 2012 by FSD Staff

Words by Alan Cerenil (@snobworthy)

It wasn’t supposed to end like this. Not this way. Not so fast. Not in sudden heartbreak. Maybe this team was destined to lose to the Heat or whoever came out of the West in the Finals, but at least they would’ve had the chance to prove themselves. Now with Derrick Rose out for the rest of the playoffs with a torn ACL, it’s very unlikely the Bulls will get that chance. Dreams of another Grant Park celebration, and hopes for a seventh title are all but gone. As Derrick Rose laid on the United Center court in horrifying pain, the season flashed through our eyes. In a flash it was gone.

This particular NBA season never felt quite right. Whether it was the compressed schedule, the amount of dreadful teams that populated the league, the significant injuries to star players, or bad feelings from the lockout, the season was unsettling. The luster and excitement of the Bulls truly being back as a NBA championship contender, quickly faded with every regular season game. We were all waiting for the playoffs to start, not for meaningless games against the Bobcats or the Cavaliers — and in game one of the playoffs it ended for the Bulls.

Yes, I fully understand this team still has games to play and they’re capable of beating an awful Philadelphia 76ers team without Rose, but what about the next series against the Celtics or the Hawks? I won’t even debate their chances against the Heat. This current Bulls team has heart and will play as hard as they can, but all the desire in the world can’t overcome the loss of Rose. The only thing that matters is winning the NBA championship — not getting pass the first or second round. We all need to hold this team a championship standard and continue to do so even without Rose.

Yes they can beat any team with Rose, the question is winning a series! Awesome Article. We got a good team and we will support either way! Let’s go Bulls!

The FSD staff are just a bunch of band wagon bulls fans? Why am I not surprised. This team didn’t become the #1 seed because of D Rose. They became top seed because of their defense. I’m still behind my Bulls 100%. I bet you doubters are the same cats that suddenly became Hockey Fans after the Black Hawks won the championship. Only to give up on them after a couple years. A real fan stands behind their squad when the chips are down, not just when liking that team becomes the hollywood thing to like.
