FSD Feature: Revisiting “On My Momma” 10 Years Later

Posted on June 12, 2012 by FSD Staff

Fatboi Fresh: You did get a single deal with Universal, right? Can you explain how that worked?

True Enuff: Yeah, I signed with Universal Records via Dunn Ruff Entertainment in summer of 2002. I had very little to no interaction with Universal other than them cutting me a check. They dealt directly with Dunn Ruff, but as anybody who had/has a deal can tell you, signing is NOT the finish line. That’s actually when the marathon really begins.

Fatboi Fresh: With that being said, you had one of the biggest indie Chicago records of all time and it seemed like things were really going your way. But somehow, everything came to an end. What happened, or in other words who fucked it up?

True Enuff: Man, I can’t say anybody fucked it up. What I will say is had I known then what I know now, I wouldn’t have been so trusting with other people’s business decisions. A lot of top Chicago artists and producers made offers to do work with me, but nothing ever materialized. And by me being signed through a production company, all of the important shit was discussed over my head, really. I think it was a matter of complacency on other’s behalf and naiveté on my own. But I parted ways with Universal and Dunn Ruff with no hard feelings. Business is business you just gotta learn from shit and move forward.

Fatboi Fresh: Do you still work with Swing and Big Huss?

True Enuff: We most definitely keep in contact. I fell back for a minute as far as actively pursuing rap. I took time to mature, I became a father and just really was doing the family thing. But as of late, I’ve been fucking with the music hard and I’m about to do some work with Swing on a project, and plan to work with Huss in some capacity as well. I got a joint in mind for him.
