Fatboi Fresh: What are you currently working on? What’s the next move to get things back in order the way it once were?
True Enuff: I’m currently working on an album that I’m putting together on my own. I’m always working on music. Even when I fell back, I was doing two songs a week. My plan is to make dope, impactful music — that timeless shit you can rock to 10 years from now. At the moment, I’m just hand-picking niggas and building my team. I learned that the rap industry is not just about being nice, you gotta study the ins and outs of this shit in order to be effective — so I just been peeping game or “going to college” as I call it.
All in all, I’m looking to build with other individuals who are good at what they do and got they mind right. I got so much love for my city, and I grew up during the Crucial Conflict, Twista, Do or Die, Traxster, Common era. That’s all I listened to, and I had so much respect for what they did musically, that I still get star struck to this day when I see them. But that’s what I wanna reintroduce — that kind of feel. I really identified with that.
Fatboi Fresh: In my eyes, you were a pioneer in the Chicago movement. How do you feel about the current state of Chicago music? And what advice would you give to the next kid from here who scores a hit as big as “On My Momma?”
True Enuff: I feel good about where Chicago is musically. With social networking, you’re able to reach a lot more people, and you can open yourself up to just about any market. I like that artists are actually working with each other, which in my opinion, was the only thing really holding us back.
I like to see the young guys out here making moves, cause when you’re young, you’re fearless and not tied down to any set parameters. I would advise them to study the game and become involved in every aspect of the business. Network and build a rapport with the DJs and the promoters. Keep your circle tight and be aware of the people around you and their motives. Lastly, make it a point to stay sharp and creative and continue making good music.
