While 2012 was the great Chicago gold rush, many critics and skeptics have predicted that the scene will fall face first in 2013. “Chicago is the next Houston in ’05” or “Chicago is the next hyphy movement.” But nah, we aren’t going for that. 2012 was just the beginning.
And sure, Durk, Reese, Rockie, YP and Louie haven’t released their major label debuts yet, but they are all in the system — and that’s a step in the right direction. There’s a lot of buzz surrounding Spenzo and his recent, rumored deal with Atlantic; and their IMG labelmates the L.E.P. Bogus Boys just inked with Gee Roberson and Interscope/Geffen. Chop is back and more in-demand than ever, having recently hit the lab with Rick Ross, Diddy and others. Keef didn’t do Kendrick numbers, but he has a track record of making hits, and you can count on him returning for his spot once released from juvenile.
