1.) Chicago Rappers Come Across As Obnoxious In The Media
Chicago rappers are controversial. This is true. Chicago rappers are outspoken in the media. This is fact. But what makes our artists so brash? Is it the weather? The mild sauce? The second city mentality? Whatever the reason, Chicago pulls no punches.
Lupe’s recent fiasco during the presidential inaugural celebration ended in the rapper being escorted off stage, and early last year, he took a lot of heat for calling Obama a terrorist. Lupe also had a brief tiff with fellow rapper Chief Keef on Twitter, while Rhymefest called Keef a “bomb.” Keef was also a headline maker, most notably for poking fun at Lil Jo Jo’s murder, and threatening to smack Lupe Fiasco.
But the king of all shock value goes to none other than Kanye West. Kanye himself stated, “I’m so Chi, that you thought I was bashful.” The line very clever, but in hindsight, there is absolutely nothing bashful about Mr. West, as he speaks his mind in every chance he’s given. From “George Bush doesn’t care about black people,” to VMA rants and interruptions, Yeezy is Chicago’s tabloid king.
Maybe it’s a regional thing? Or maybe it’s all the elements we have to endure to survive and see success. In a business of vicious lies and dangerous rumors, it’s special when we stumble upon people who aren’t subservient to the politically correct status quo. If you’re not standing up for something, then what are you doing?
