FSD: One thing about your rap style is that you don’t shy away from using humor in your verses. What stuck out in this song is when you said, “I’m on tour homesick on tour, you sick of home see you bored.” Was that just a humor line or was that a subliminal jab at another artist?
ShowYouSuck: That line is more of a stunt line. I don’t really throw too many jabs like that. Nowadays when you gain a little steam, you have a thousand people that root for you, but you get one or two people that throw some jabs. I’m out on tour and it may suck a little bit and I might want to come home, but you’re stuck at home! I wasn’t trying to be all emo and shit, but it was more of a stunt line.
FSD: It’s a rarity these days when up and coming artists show the artists before them any notoriety. Do you feel like it takes away from the cities rich history of overlooking artists from previous years?
ShowYouSuck:Yeah man it’s a bummer! I’m a Westsider; I know the Southside is ruling shit, but I’m Westside. We are the Holy Grail when it comes to Chicago Hip-Hop to me. With all of the attention Chicago is getting now outlets like MTV2 doing the Chicago special, a lot of people talked about Bump J in high regard. I’m like “Man what about Crucial Conflict?” Bump J wasn’t a huge of a deal for us. As far as I’m concerned I didn’t know who Bump J was until he got the deal and start putting out mixtapes. On the Westside, we didn’t hold Bump J in that high of a regard.
FSD: Based on the hook, you balance hanging with the stoner crowd and also the drillers. What was your angle in expressing this through song?
ShowYouSuck: When I put that hook together, it was kind of a way to express that I have friends that are all walks of life. I have friends that smoke weed all day and don’t do shit, I have friends that’s never done drugs before. For that line I seen a lot of people that said the culture is mixing. A lot of those people are doing it just on the surface. A lot of people are wearing motorcycle jackets now; I have friends that are actually in that culture. It’s all in Chicago; the city hosts all these different cultures.
FSD: Lastly, your crew is very prevalent in using the word “Head Ass” in your music. What is your take on the comical reference?
ShowYouSuck: That’s somebody doing some shit they know they don’t need to be doing—a poseur. A person that does some loud shit just for attention. A person that goes about shit the wrong way—a person that doesn’t play their role.
