FSD Feature: Johnny P’s 15 Best Features

Posted on September 25, 2013 by FSD Staff

12. Johnny P f/ Scarface & Do or Die “Take It Like A Playa” (1998)

Okay, this isn’t technically a Johnny feature since this is an actual Johnny solo cut, but just play along with us. By a show of hands, how many people remember Johnny’s solo album, The Next, that came out in 1998 on Rap-A-Lot? If you missed it you were sleeping.

Johnny’s first single/video featured Rap-A-Lot labelmates Scarface and Do or Die. And there was once a time when music videos had epic and dramatic story lines. This clip was no exception as it found Johnny P’s main thang cheating on him at her bachelorette party. John later pours his heartbreak and feelings out all while keeping it playa. Do or Die also come to life to start rapping after posing as statues in Johnny P’s mansion in case you forgot. Where can I get a Do or Die statue, by the way?

One track that should be on the list if it wasn’t so hard to find is Do or Die’s “Playa Like Me and You (Remix)” They used to play that on WGCI back then. Danny Boy was on that too alongside Johnny P.
