The only super-known placement that Baines has under his belt is Currensy’s “Rapper Weed.” But I’m not putting him in my top ten because of placements, I’m putting Tony Baines here because no matter what you may think of him or his beats he is the undisputed King of Chicago “underground” producers. It’s simple if you’re trying to do something for the underground, or if you’re underground trying to come up, you gotta go and see Tone.
Name me 10 credible Chicago emcees that Tone hasn’t worked with, and I’ll quit. Sidenote: Most people think Tone only checks a hundred or so dollars for a beat. Wrong! Tone actually makes $3,700 for a beat. After you buy a beat 37 more people buy the same beat. Get it? Errr…maybe that was a corny joke.
