FSD: How about the controversy surrounding the film? How are you dealing with that?
Hypno Carlito: I’m fine with it. Many rappers dissed the movie, but let’s be real, if Spike Lee called them, they’d be apart of it. No hesitation. Anyone who turned this opportunity down is obviously stupid! It’s a jealousy thing with the artists. And as far as the people go, listen, people follow what’s current, just like with Straight Outta Compton — everybody was complaining before it came out. The response was 50/50! Now it’s this big, great movie and the majority of people like it. It just gotta come out and the people will see.
FSD: Have you seen the movie?
Hypno Carlito: No, but I will be at the world premiere and I’m excited about that. Sharing the same carpet as people I grew up watching. I’m honored.
FSD: Do you have any other music on the soundtrack?
Hypno Carlito: Yes, I have one more, “My City,” performed by Nick Cannon. I didn’t write the whole song to that one, though. I just did a verse. “Pray 4 My City” is the one that’s all me.
FSD: What can you tell us about the soundtrack?
Hypno Carlito: I don’t know much, because there were so many songs and now I’m just seeing the track list. Me and Cannon did a few more songs that didn’t make the soundtrack. I’m just blessed and excited that my song made the lead, but from what I hear, it’s sounding dope!
FSD: Are there any other Chicago artists on the soundtrack?
Hypno Carlito: I’ve seen Tink, R. Kelly, Jennifer Hudson and myself.
Much love Hypno and many blessings on your hook up!!!
