FSD: How did you get your name? And have you heard any feedback from Dave Chappelle’s people?
Wave Chapelle: I pretty much got my name from just kicking it in the studio with the homies. We would always come up with these names like “Trill Cosby” or “Xanny Glover” and what not. This was around the time I got hip to the “Wavy” term. I was using it a lot in my raps and I said this crazy line where I ended up calling myself Wave Chapelle even though I was going by a different rap name at the time. So the homies just started calling me Wave — Chapelle of course came from Dave Chappelle who is my favorite comedian hands down, so I just ran with it. I haven’t gotten any feedback from Dave or any of his people, but I would love to meet him one day and thank him for the inspiration.
FSD: What can we expect from W? Who is featured and who produced?
Wave Chapelle: You can expect a bunch of dope raps, great production, and a variety of vibes. I really made it a point to show off my range of different flows and bars on this project as well. I view rap like a sport, and I still see the competition in it that’s where the projects’ concept comes from. I’m going for the win. I wanted to keep the lyricism on point and at the same time make music that gives off a certain feeling that people can relate to. Each track has a different vibe and is also a part of what I am feeling at the moment.
There are records that are more personal and give insight on my background and story, there are lyrical records, and vibe records. A good blend of music. As far as production, the homie Kush has a dope joint he produced on there. You can also expect to hear two of the dopest producers from Milwaukee that I work close with: 4 Keys and Maajei Vu — they both played a huge roll. 4 keys is helping me curate a lot of the more hard-hitting joints and Maajei is being really hands on with the project as a whole. He produced the majority of the songs and spent the most time with me far as actually sitting down and putting the songs together. He’s like 40″ to my Drake, haha. Shout out to Bizness Boi too, he got a joint on there. Pretty much everybody involved in this project is from Milwaukee. The only two features is squad: IshDARR and Yung Satori. This project I’m giving the fans more of Wave. The project is set release April 29th available for stream via Spotify, Apple Music, & Soundcloud. Going for the W!
FSD: What else does Wave have planned for 2016?
Wave Chapelle: More dope music I have another project coming soon after W. Been working on visuals, got shows coming up and some dope collaborations. 2016 is all about connecting with the people that enjoy the music I’m putting out. Got some things in the works at the moment. Till then be on the look out for W on April 29th. Stay tuned.
