FSD: Are there any other Chicago artists who you’d like to work with?
Nem: Yeah man, there’s a lot. Kids These Days. I love Kids These Days. Chance The Rapper. I want to do a Chance The Rapper video for sure. He’s awesome man. I think on camera we can do some really fun stuff with him.
FSD: What’s been your personal favorite project to date?
Nem: Probably the “Nobody” video. It’s still pretty amazing to me.
FSD: Has that been your most recognizable project so far?
Nem: Probably so. The Mac Miller video (“America”) had 2.3 million views the last time I checked, but I didn’t direct that video. I was just the animation director. That wasn’t really my project. It was an ILLROOTS project and they hired me as the animation lead. So as far as my personal projects “Nobody” is definitely the biggest. It was the first time I had my name on TV as a director. I put it on my Facebook I was so happy about it man.
FSD: (Laughs) Yeah I saw that Rockie gave you a shoutout too on 106 & Park.
Nem: He did! He told me that he was going to do that but I didn’t believe him and when he actually did it I was stoked about it.
FSD: So what’s next on the agenda for you?
Nem: We’re trying to do this next Rockie video as soon as possible. I’m doing some other stuff outside of music videos too. I’m doing a commercial for a hair care product. It sounds boring but we’re going to do some really cool shit with it. I’ve got some work for a few artists that hasn’t been cleared yet, but Me and Rockie probably have like the next three or four videos already planned out. It’s all unofficial right now, but we sat down together and set out a plan of action for all the stuff we’re going to do.
FSD: Sounds like you guys are on the right path.
Nem: Yeah man. We talked very seriously about growing organically and not trying to force too many things. All the projects we’ve done together so far have been organic. I did a couple music videos, I did the cover for Electric Highway, I did his tour, and I designed his stage production. I just helped his process a bit and my background in web developing and designing helped me a bit.
FSD: 2013 should be a pivotal year for you.
Nem: I’m hoping man. I’ve been working for a long time and it feels good to be appreciated. Realistically, Rockie was like the first dude to help me get exposure. I’m really appreciative for that. If I ever have a story to tell I could be like, ‘Rockie was the one who helped me out in the beginning.’
This was dope man! And Nem, it was Borders on State Street not Starbucks.
Also Thank you for that shout out homie we will get to do some more very amazing projects shortly!!
