15. Jay-Z f/ Beanie Sigel & Scarface “This Can’t Be Life” (2000)
Album: The Dynasty: Roc La Familia
If you listen to Kanye’s monologue on “Last Call,” he’ll tell you exactly how he put this one together. He took the drums from Dr. Dre’s “Xxxplosive” and put them on a sped up sample of Harold Melvin and the
Blue Notes’ “I Miss You.” Another popular use of that Harold Melvin sample comes about a decade later with Big Boi’s “Shine Blockas.” The former is mournful while the latter is celebratory, showing how differently producers can interpret the same song. The story goes that Scarface’s verse reflected an event that had just happened to him, so on the way to the studio he came up with his verse and then spat it in a one-take when he got there.

I think this is accurate list with the exception of a few tracks( spend the night-marey carey, wouldn’t get far- game, a star is born- jay z )
Too lazy to go through whole list, but Through The Wire should at least be in top 5
Very nice list! Ya’ll shoulda put Camron’s Dead Or Alive, Do Or Die’s Paid the Price, Freeway-Hear The Song.
This track isn’t a Bette Midler sample, they had to recreate it in order to clear. 5iveit
All I know is “Through The Wire” and “Down”(Cam’Ron) are some energetic azz beats
Do Or Die – Higher was one of my favorites
An 88 Keys list would be awesome
