FSD Feature: 15 Essential Bop Songs

Posted on April 17, 2014 by FSD Staff

Chief Keef – Save That Shit

Tucked at the end of Chief Keef’s breakout mixtape, Back From the Dead, “Save That Shit” was many people’s first exposure to bop music. After 10 straight tracks of unrepentant drill, “Save That Shit” was the blissful release. “Shout out to all my ladies!” cries DJ MoonDawg at the beginning of the song. Yes, “Save That Shit” is the ladies track. But over a bed of towering synths that you could triumphantly finish a marathon too, Chief Keef sings “She say she love me whatever that is, do me a favor save that shit.” Really, “Save That Shit” is the anti-ladies song but with a melody as infectious as this it’s almost sadistic that Keef makes you sing along to lines like “Good loud pack/Smell like cat piss.”

Its a double negative with these songs. Kids wanna hear but they don’t seem to make radio versions (at least I haven’t seen many) and you can’t play them where kids go. (Prom, outdoor fest)
