FSD Feature: 15 Essential Bop Songs

Posted on April 17, 2014 by FSD Staff

Lil Chris ft. Breezy Montana – What to Do/Bop Like Me

Westside mainstay Lil Chris’ current calling card may be the effortlessly enjoyable “Bop Like Me,” but his versatility would be shortchanged by leaving it at that. Lil Chris can tackle drill (“Pole On Me”) and bitter emo-rap (“2 Fake”) while keeping his essence intact. His best song to date might be the exuberant “What to Do,” a song that is basically about being simultaneously confused and exhilarated by all the shit you have. “Got so much money don’t know what to do!” Lil Chris cries during the chorus, “All this designer I don’t know what to do!” The song barrels forward on an unstoppable momentum and melody as Chris and crew double down on the verses with propulsive celebrating of all this shit they got.

Its a double negative with these songs. Kids wanna hear but they don’t seem to make radio versions (at least I haven’t seen many) and you can’t play them where kids go. (Prom, outdoor fest)
