FSD Feature: A Guide To Harold’s Chicken In Hip-Hop

Posted on June 9, 2014 by FSD Staff

Common – Rich Man vs. Poor Man (1994)

“So give me a six-pack and a half of Harold’s Chicken… a good combination”

Common came through and showed love to Harold’s 20 years ago on “Rich Man vs. Poor Man” from his second album Resurrection. Does that make him the first rapper to ever mention Harold’s in a rap record? Either way, he’s dead on. I can’t think of any situation in life that wouldn’t be enhanced by a six pack of brews and some Harold’s.  Common effectively put the chicken chain on the map with this first reference.

“Half-dark special, hot sauce on it.” Trochaic but never prosaic.
