FSD Feature: 20 Dope Songs In Chicago-New York Collaboration History

Posted on August 27, 2014 by FSD Staff

Common f/ Talib Kweli “One-Nine-Nine-Nine” (1999)

We definitely miss the Rawkus era. It was truly something special. We’d be amiss to not mention that during this time, Com had bounced from Chicago to explore greener industry pastures in NYC. He’d been working closely with the Native Tongues, and by 1999 had aligned himself with The Soulquarians collective. In mid-98 he stole the show on the classic “Respiration” from the Rawkus breakthrough, Black Star, and he came back for seconds the next year alongside Sadat X for Soundbombing II. Their collabo, “1-9-9-9” was so good, in fact, that it was pushed as a single — and one that still gets a lot of burn to this day.
