FSD Feature: 20 Dope Songs In Chicago-New York Collaboration History

Posted on August 27, 2014 by FSD Staff

Common f/ Canibus “Making A Name For Ourselves” (1997)

The year was 1997, and a young rapper by the name of Canibus was arguably the hottest and most anticipated new MC in the game. This may be hard to imagine in 2014, but in the 9-7 Can-I-bus was literally everywhere. From featuring with the Fugees and Lost Boyz to appearing at the VMAs painted silver, Canibus was red hot. So it was only right another rising lyrical titan, Common Sense, recruited him for the verbal intercourse known as “Making A Name For Ourselves.”

The two wordsmiths trade quotables for five minutes over a simmering No ID-instrumental, and although it’s debatable about who killed who, most would say Canibus washed Common on the track (even through Canibus’ bars sound super dated in this day and age.)
