Grav f/ Al Tariq & Lil Ray “City To City” (1996)

In 1996, Chicago’s Grav, who had a nationally distributed and promoted album, Down To Earth, connected with Beatnuts cast-off Al Tariq to make “City to City” — a city-amalgamating anthem. The track’s instrumental was actually one of the first beats that a budding young Kanye West ever sold. On “City to City,” the future sampling expert used components of Eddie Henderson’s “Cyclops” to spread love from the 773 to the 212.
