It was late-2002. Jay Z was hip-hop’s king. Outkast was on top of the world, and their new artist Killer Mike was a vicious young rising star — ready to attack any track shoved in his face like a rabid beast. Twista was on the verge of making his true commercial breakthrough, and a young producer from Cook County named Kanye Omari West was lurking in the shadows waiting on his turn. The star-studded six-minute track appeared on Hova’s debatably great album The Blueprint 2: The Gift and the Curse. Looking back, they’re likely pissed they didn’t let Yeezy at least get an eight bar verse in.
