FSD Feature: Kanye West’s 25 Best Beats [2006-2012]

11. Twista f/ Kanye West “Alright” (2009)

Album: Category F5

16 Alright ft. Kanye West

One of the top comments on an audio of this song on YouTube reads “Dude. It sounds like he’s saying ballsack.” Despite the fact that, since reading that comment, I haven’t been able to hear it any other way, I still find this track to be an important one in Kanye’s production history. I mean, without considering the drums, this beat could have been on like, a Linkin Park song, or Evanescence or something.

The fact that it actually is not wack is primarily a testament to the transformational quality of ‘Ye and Twista vocals. In isolation, or paired with vocals from anyone else, save maybe Flocka, this song would have been pretty weak. The raps, though, first make the song cool, and then even make the track itself a compelling choice, given the way it’s used, especially when Twista rolls through and it resolves into string-synths.

Even though he sold it, “We Gone Make It” by Jadakiss should’ve been on the list

pretty sure DJ Toomp made “Cant Tell Me Nothing”… it was originally a Jeezy song, whikch is why the ad-lib is there… thats bad, since you have it as his #1 beat… I could be wrong though

The song was produced by kanye AND dj toomp. plus kanye always has a bunch of people do additional vocals and what have you. that does not mean the song was originally for them. he could have had dj toomp take off the ad-libs if he really didnt want it there.

“Live Fast, Die Young” should have made top 5, and it’s not even on the list.
