Though Vic Mensa a.k.a. “The Innanet” a.k.a. “Don Carlito” a.k.a. “Thurgood Rich Nigga” took until last month to officially become a solo artist, his potential to be one had been clear for years. Take this 2010 track (his first collaboration with Thelonious Martin), introduced by a clip from Black Moon’s “Who Got The Props,” that devolves into a dark, lyrical flex. At one point, the beat retreats into the quiet background as though exhausted from keeping up with Vic.
