49. Mikkey Halsted f/ Cocaine 80s “Pain” (2012)
In 2012, Chicago rap was speeding at over 100 mph. The world was fixated with the drill scene, Keef was making noise, and labels were descending upon Chicago like there was a gold rush happening in real time. But one of the best projects to emerge from the city’s crowded output was Mikkey Halsted’s Castro album. The album was executive produced by No ID and Don Cannon, and “Pain” was one of the records that just hit you in the gut. The beat was incredible and calculated, and was the right sound to kick off the Castro era. The accompanying video was equally as powerful, showcasing No ID alongside his Artium signees including Mikkey, Common and James Fauntleroy.

Crazy how No ID seemes to just stay so synonymous in his production with Hip-Hop regardless of the style and changes of mainstream music.
