FSD Feature: The 50 Greatest No ID Beats

Posted on November 19, 2013 by FSD Staff

44. Common “Breaker 1/9” (1992)

Some of you might be too young to remember, but those that do know that “Breaker 1/9” featured a sample of the Isley Brothers “Between The Sheets” a full two years before Biggie did it. Biggie famously flipped this joint for “Big Poppa,” which would on to become one of the biggest hits of his career — one that’s still a club and radio staple to this day. But Com kinda had firsties here. Surely they weren’t the first artist/producer combo to sample this record, but it did get a fairly decent push from Relativity, one that included mucho airplay on Yo! MTV Raps and Rap City. #neverforget

Crazy how No ID seemes to just stay so synonymous in his production with Hip-Hop regardless of the style and changes of mainstream music.
